When Sharon Styles started researching her family history in 2007, she learned many of her ancestors were buried in Bull Hill Cemetery located in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. She also learned the Texas Historical Commission was in the process of researching the history of this cemetery and the surrounding community.
Shortly thereafter, Sharon joined forces with John Crain, Nedra Lee and Jim Bruseth to unearth the rich history of Bull Hill Cemetery. This collaboration resulted in a 2010 gathering to celebrate the unique history of Bull Hill Cemetery. Among the hundreds in attendance were the descendants of formerly enslaved African Americans and the descendants of those who owned those enslaved.
This documentary follows the journey of discovery each participant takes as they delve into the history of Bull Hill Cemetery and the surrounding community.
"There is no better place … to stand face to face with the past than in the old burying grounds.”
